Douglass (William) is born in Scotland.

1691

William Douglass studies medicine in Edinburgh, Paris, Utrecht, and Leiden. He arrives in Boston in 1716 and becomes the first trained European-physician in New England. Douglass initially stays in Boston for only a short time, but returns in 1718 and becomes the town’s leading physician, though always considered something of an outsider. He dies in 1752.
